With all that is going on in the world I thought it was a good time to say a few words about Finn Bay Farm.  From a personal perspective I feel so grateful to be spending my days here.

Beautiful gardens at Finn Bay Farm
The garden, the workshop and road to the cottages.

In August 2020, when we began to have a better idea of how COVID was affecting us all, we opened our cottages again for rentals. We had a very busy time with an almost non-stop flow of guests visiting through to November.

With the cleaning protocols we are now employing, it’s a lot more work but I am  grateful for the business and also its always a treat to meet new folks, even if its only outside and masked when they arrive.

2020 was our third year that the vegetable garden was operating.  I expanded the footprint and by and large had a great crop.  The tomatoes were a little disappointing but I attribute that to a bit of a late start and the cooler weather during the growing season. Other than that we had great crops of peas, potatoes, beans, carrots, onions, cucumbers and much more.  It’s a treat to be able to go into the garden in January and pull carrots for that day’s dinner.  The rule of  thumb seems to be that it takes 7 or 8 years to get a garden well established and operating efficiently.  I am really hopeful that in the 4 or 5 years I have to get there we will be in that place.

I was very fortunate to have 3 women – Anastasia, Naoko and Stefanie – stay in either the woofer cottage or Blue Jay in the spring and summer to help with planting and garden maintenance.  This fall, Melody came to stay and helped prepare the garden for the winter and this years planting.

In the fall I happily adopted 2 kittens, Jennifer and Benjamin who came to live with me.  They are so much fun and are trying so hard to be BFF with the pups Kate, Jack and Baby.

I am hopeful that as we begin to focus on the future again, I can move on to finishing the Big Pond Lawn and building out the retreat centre, the greenhouse and possibly several more small cottages. It’s also the time I am starting to look forward again to hosting special events here, be that concerts, music camps and retreats. My business of almost 50 years has been promoting concerts and producing events all over North America, and I can’t wait to offer folks the chance to visit Finn Bay Farm and enjoy this place as much as I do.

Be safe, stay well and I hope to see you here when you are able to visit.
